 Nād Music Institute is committed to preserving and sharing the rich tradition of Gurbani Kirtan. Through thoughtful research and engaging training programs, we strive to honor its original essence. We work closely with experts and organizations to provide resources and learning opportunities for everyone. Our initiatives include organizing conferences, camps, and classes, recording Kirtan albums, and publishing research papers—creating meaningful ways to connect with this sacred musical heritage. 

Current Projects

Kirtan Camps

Nād Music Institute organizes Kirtan Camps to enhance training in traditional string and percussion instruments. These immersive sessions offer presentations on the rich heritage of Gurbani Kirtan, vocal techniques, and hands-on practice with authentic string instruments. Whether you're an aspiring musician or simply curious, join us to deepen your understanding and skills. 

Salok Mahalla Nauvaan

Salok Mehla Nauvan is a unique rendition of Guru Teg Bahadar Sahib’s saloks, sung in 15 raags by all female kirtanees accompanied with traditional instruments like Saranda, Sarangi, Dilruba, and Taus. The album will be released in 2024. Your generous support will enable this project come to life.

Gurbani Kirtan Manual

Gurbani Kirtan Learning Manual will be created for Grades 1 to 5 with professionally researched text supported by audio and video lessons. The manual will also serve as a resource kit for Punjabi School teachers to have a structured Gurbani Kirtan curriculum or can be used by individual students to learn Gurbani kirtan at their own pace. The grade 1 manual will be released in 2024. Your generous support will enable the creation of grades 2-5 in future.

Kirtan Courses

Vocal Kirtan

Vocal Kirtan classes are based on Harmonium. It will help beginners to learn the basics of Kirtan starting with identification of their voice and associated notes.

Kirtan On String Instruments​

You can learn Kirtan on classical Indian string instruments used during the time of Sikh Gurus -Saranda/ Sarangi/ Taus/ Dilruba. You can select the instrument of your choice and learn its intricacies from experts in these instruments. ​

Jori/Tabla/Pakhawaj

The online Jori/Tabla/Pakhawaj offers basic as well as advance training on classical percussion instruments Jori/ Tabla/ Pakhawaj. You can select the instrument of your choice and learn its intricacies from best-in-class percussionists.

Our Kirtan Albums

Rags of Guru Teg Bahadar

Celebrating 400th Prakash Purab of Guru Teg Bahadar Sahib, 9th Guru of the Sikhs, Nād Music Institute released the Sabad Kirtan album – “Rags of Guru Teg Bahadar Sahib”. The  album  contains 17 Sabads of Guru Teg Bahadar Sahib sung in 17 Rāgs based on centuries old tradition of Sikh Kirtan, wherein the Kirtanees have sung  Sabads  from Guru Granth Sahib with accompaniment of centuries old percussion instrument - Pakhawaj - and string instruments - Taus, Sarangi,  Rabãb,  Dilruba and Tanpura. 

Rags of Guru Nanak Sahib

Dedicated to 550th prakash purab of Guru Nanak Sahib, Nād Music Institute is pleased to share the album “Rāgs of Guru Nanak Sahib”. The album includes twenty Sabads of Guru Nanak Sahib sung by selected ragis in the prescribed Rāgs of Guru Granth Sahib. To listen click to these Sabads
